| Brembo has been making application specific brake kits for years. Stoptech did not invent the game, they just copied it. My BBK was designed for the 300ZX and has been sold by various vendors for years. Two piece Brembo rotor, hat, calipers and mounting hardware.
The Akebono kit wasn't designed with our car in mind.
Agreed - in fact, there is no Akebono kit per se. The Akebono brake rotors and calipers have been adapted by aftermarket companies to fit various Nissan vehicles.
Piston sizes weren't accounted for, etc.

Heavy one piece rotor - FEW manufacturers OEM two piece rotors, thats generally left for aftermarket, or very high end kits. As I illustrated earlier though, you can build an Akebono caliper based kit for less than stoptechs, with 2 piece rotors. So i don't really get what you don't understand. Better yet, why did they supply car and driver with a Z without proper brake fluid and pads for a intense run at a track? Why did they design the rotors to be heavy pieces of crap? Better yet, what idiot takes a car out on a track without flushing the brake fluid? The one piece rotor decision was most likely made for cost savings. And to answer your question, even though I haven't mentioned the words trophy kit once, is that yes the trophy kit is like a trophy wife. Both incite jealousy from Joe schmos with plain janes like yourself suffering from inferiority complexes ;) sally can go to JC penney all she wants, but sorry :( don't worry about my cash flow and what I spend on.
